Join me for a ride in the forest!

I have been cantering Biasini through the forest. NO! Not really. This was a virtual ride. My coach’s assistant Lynsey Rowan has been taking Biasini out on the forest trails and she sent me videos. This first one is walking toward the trails. Oakcrest Farm has many acres of forest trails that can be reached by walking up the hill from the barn.

Farther into the forest Lynsey gets Biasini to pick up a canter. I watch this and I feel like I am cantering along the trail on Biasini. I have watched this at least TEN times this week! Click and take a ride.

Lynsey Rowan is a multi tasker. She can ride Biasini, holding the reins in one hand and her phone in the other to video these rides. Thank you Lynsey!

What a lovely rhythmic canter! I’m so used to seeing phone clips of herky-jerky stuff that I almost thought it was impossible to record something this nice!

He does have a nice canter and Lynsey has a very good balanced seat so her hand holding the phone can be independent. Thanks for commenting Alli!

What a lovely canter! Feels so nice from here!!!

It is a very nice canter. For you it would be different than the lope . We must have a clear 3 beat with that moment of suspension . Biasini’s canter is very comfortable and I think you would like it. He’d be happy in one of your saddles too!😀

      1. Avery Avatar

Yes! Lito as I say dances. He has a true canter and very uphill. I sill call it loping since I generally ride western.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

The uphill part is what is most sought after in dressage. Maybe he would like to try some dressage moves?😄

          1. Avery Avatar

He is indeed naturally inclined for it! I have actually had the most training in dressage and I have always wanted to take him to some schooling shows. It is just hard to do that when you’re mostly only riding on the weekends. We will get there one day!

          2. anne leueen Avatar

Good for you. Dressage can be a good training for any horse and any discipline. I understand though it tough with only weekend riding. I love your trail rides and photos though.

Good to watch this fantastic video, as it gives the wonderful feel. Lovely to see Biasini, hope to see both of you soon together as now some parts of the world is giving some good news believe it spreads all over the world soon.

Cool videos! I will second that I am also impressed that the rider was able to multi-task from the saddle there. What a lovely path for riding too. And seems like Biasini has really nice gaits. I mean, I know he is a well-schooled dressage horse and all. I guess I was just struck at how clearly that came across in the video from the rider’s view point and with the sound of the foot falls. Probably as close as I will come to getting a ride like that so thank you! I can’t imagine how much you are looking forward to getting back in the saddle post lock down.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

He does have good gaits. He has a big trot but I can sit to it because he takes me with him and his canter is very comfortable. Thanks for watching g the videos and taking the time to comment.

What fun….I have trouble staying in the saddle with two hands in play.

Love his shiny mane and forward pointing ears 🙂 I hope you can ride him again soon. In the meanwhile, it is of great comfort to know he is being well cared for.

I bet is a great comfort to at least get these updates about your best friend when you can’t take him out yourself <3

      Yes it is wonderful!

I haven’t ridden in half a century, literally. So I really enjoyed the feel and the sounds of her riding Biasini. Thanks!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

      Your are most welcome Joy!

  11. Judy Avatar

How delightful! In the first video, I watched him notice the downed branch, and I remembered the welcomed challenge of working with an animal with a mind of his own. 🙂 Biasini did well.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes he is good. That makes it so nice to go out on the trails with him. And yes, horses are not like tennis rackets or golf clubs. Thanks for commenting Judy.

          You too!

Holding the phone and the horse at the same time must be hard. You all are very talented in so many ways. I enjoyed the ride through the forest green. It was a much needed time of relaxation. Good on you!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Lynsey, who took the video while riding Biasini, is a very good rider. I’m glad you enjoyed the videos. I love watching them as I can feel like I’m out there riding! Have a good weekend!

  14. dprastka Avatar

AWE! I wish you could go to the barn!!! But I totally understand and Lynsey is very good but then so is your pony staying steady for her to use her camera in one hand while holding reins in the other! 😍 I watched it several times and am glad she is taking these videos for you. My heart goes out to you and others missing their horses at this time. ❤️🐴❤️🐴❤️

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Lynsey has a background as an eventer so she is a fearlessly intelligent rider. She knows when Biasini is cautious about something and she speaks to him and tells him it is ok. I do have to tell you however that there was a 3rd video. It was also cantering but Biasini was getting excited and strong and I can hear her saying :”Whoa, whoa!” and then there is a wriggle with the phone camera as she has to take hold of both reins for a stride or two. But he is very good out in the forest and I am looking forward to getting back out there with him. From what the Provincial government says here in Ontario we may be getting some restrictions released by the end of May.

      1. dprastka Avatar

Hehe, Biasini being a little silly out there! Lynsey is so great, and how great to have him getting out by such a good rider!! And praying for some restrictions lifted! And of course that we all do well with this happening. Thanks for sharing!

I am so lucky to have my coach Belinda and also Lynsey to ride Biasini and keep him going while this Covid lockdown is going on.
