Horses! Horses Everywhere! But nary one to ride.

This week Amy gave us the Lens-artists Challenge “At Home”. I don’t have my horse at my home and with the lockdown continuing I am still not able to ride. But as I walked through my home I realized there are many horses. Here are two greys painted by Mabel Hollams. When I am very old and move into an elders’ home, this painting is the one thing that I will insist on taking with me.

Next is a photo of my daughter, taken in 2006,with her horse Espar (Teddy to his friends) . She was on the Canadian Junior Dressage Team for the North American Youth Championships and they won the Team Silver Medal. That is the FEI medal there in the photo. I have it for safe keeping!

There are other “horses” in my home. Here are two ; one is glass and the other pink jade.

Here there are horses, in a detail from an oil painting, that came to me from my Grandmother.

Also inherited from my Grandmother is an old book that has the crest of someone called Gilbert Heathcote. I know nothing about him but if he had two horses on his crest he must have been an fairly decent fellow.

Thank you Amy for this challenge. I had fun going around my home with my camera looking for horses.

So many great horses – Teddy is very handsome and the two greys in the painting are lovely too.

Thank you Emma. The two greys are favorites of mine because they have such a realistic look in their faces. As if they are saying: “Did you bring us any treats?”

        Typical! lol!

Yes our daughter was a very good rider. She now has a family and a career so she is not riding but she may come back to it later in her life.

The name of your blog is Horse Addict, Anne and it is fitting as you share images of horses in your home! A wonderful legacy!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you Terri. With the lockdown here I am not riding so I have to look for other sources of horsey things.😅

Yes the painting of two horses is so lively and gives good feel.

What lovely art work, Anne. And that painting – I see why it is a favorite that will follow you. A price winning daughter and portrait – you must be so proud of her! So glad the challenge made you search for horses in your home – while waiting for Biasini.

I am very proud of her. She is now 32 and has a son and two step daughters and a full time career so she is not riding but she may come back to it later in her life.

Yes – never too late to take up old “love affairs”!

        1. anne leueen Avatar

          Exactly!

Wonderful post 😉 loved all shared pictures. It’s quite difficult time but I don’t understand why the riding is forbidden…? If it’s only you + 1 more person for ex + the horse. Hm…

The Stare of Emergency closed down all sports venues so no baseball, hockey, playgrounds or riding establishments. The barn I am at is not too big with twenty horses. But for bigger riding schools, with 50 or more horses, if they stayed open and offering their usual lessons they could be quite crowded with kids and parents coming and going. So only the staff is allowed in. It is lucky that my coach can be considered staff as she is the property owner and her assistant is staff so they both can ride the horses. If the barn was open there could be other owners there to ride and so there is a possibility of spreading the virus since people can have it and be asymptomatic.

Ok, thank you for the explanation. I understand now… but it’s really difficult- for people & for horses. Hope it will get better in May-June & you guys can go out & ride 🐎 again! Yay 😀

        1. anne leueen Avatar

Thanks! Me too! I hope you are well.

Well Anne, I knew Biasini was not with you so I thought you’d have to have a non-horse post. But no, you found a way! Loved your horses and really loved that you found a way to include them in your home tour :-). Hope you have your real horse in hand again soon.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you Tina. It may take time before the barns can open up again but as tough as it is I would rather wait now than have things open up and then have a Spanish Flu type of 2nd wave that kills even more people.

I am but he is in good hands and is being ridden by my coach so he’s ok.

I have often found that the innate beauty of horses makes for a a bland art work but the pair of horses in your favorite painting is exceptional.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I agree Linda! They both look like they are looking right at me as if to say: ” what are you up to? Have you brought us treats?”
