Biasini Speaks: Hawgs!

Hay Dear Humans! I thought I might catch your attention with that title! HAWGS! In case you do not know hawgs are what they call wild pigs here in South Florida. It’s the way they say the word. Ma Leueen tells me it is a Southern Drawl. Well…….whatever. Yesterday Ma Leueen and I went with Coach Lou for a trail ride with Coach Lou riding Gala Had. Gala Had says he does not like any short forms of his name so Gala Had it is.

We set off down the road and onto the trail and I was happy to see that the big puddle that had been a worry for me last week had dried up to just a muddy muck. Then we took a different turn from last week and onto a wide grassy trail. We had been going for a few minutes when I smelt something. I did not know, at first, what it was. Then I remembered. Pigs! When I was young and living in Germany I used to be taken out to the forest and there were wild pigs there. That was the smell I was smelling. Gala Had said he knew it was wild pigs and we should keep a look out for them. Then Coach Lou stopped . He had seen them. I saw them too. A long way off but they were black and moving.

“There’s a baby pig with a mother. That could be trouble.”said Coach Lou. So I knew it was we horses, me and Gala Had, who would have to protect our humans and save the day in case of trouble. We continued toward the pigs. We could not go any other way as there was a fence on one side and a long lake on the other.

The pigs began to move away. When we got to the place where the pigs had gone down into the woods something very funny happened. Coach Lou and Ma Leueen started to make weird noises. They started calling out in high pitched voices: ” Cooooooo eeeeeeeee! Cooooooo eeeeeee!” Seriously they did. Apparently this is some sort of pig call and they wanted the pigs to know we were coming and not run out in front of us. HaHaHa!

Humans! They can be pretty funny sometimes. Enjoy your end-of-week Dear Humans.

I was in southern Florida over the holidays. Too bad I missed you and the hawgs. However, some of the tourist propaganda did warn about them. It didn’t say anything about dawgs though. Curious because the two rhyme so they must have something in common.

Well last week my coach was out on a hack with another rider on one of the nice equestrian trails that goes alongside a wetland preserve. They saw a 6 foot gator!! When Lou and I went for our weekly hack he suggested we take a different route!

I am so glad and happy y’all are getting to go out on these trail rides! Makes training and showing that much better. You’re a brave boy, B! I was going to say, yell at the hogs. Although, I usually try to yell at them like a man. It works well for me!

Thanks for commenting Avery Human. Ma Leueen has put it into our schedule this winter that we go out hacking one day each week. I love it hawgs or no hawgs!🐴

Road hawgs! Well that is a new one to me. But I like it. Give me best to Gavin and Wyatt. 🐴

Who knew there were wild pigs in florida! I wonder if they have always lived there are are the descents of escaped domesticated pigs?

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I would tend to think escsaped pigs. But they are black so maybe they are indigenous. I shall try to find out. People hunt them here for sport.

Quite the adventure, Biasini. Glad the humans gave you a chuckle with their pig calls!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Well Sandy Human, I tell you, they were pretty funny. I would have laughed but we horses keep the fact that we laugh at humans sometimes a secret. 🐴

      1. sandyjwhite Avatar

        Smart thinking.

  9. Megala Avatar

It is amazing that you could remember the smell of pigs even after a long time. 🙂

    1. anne leueen Avatar

We horses keep those memories for most of our lives Megala Human. Smells are an important way we can detect danger that we cannot see. We need those memories for our survival. Thanks for commenting. 🐴

Hahaha, humans are very funny sometimes! I’m glad the pigs stayed away and didn’t cause you any trouble!! I Love hearing about your trail rides, Florida style!! ❤️🐴🐎❤️

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you Diana Human. I think the pigs knew we horses would give them a difficult time if they interfered but you know how Mothers are about their babies. I was glad they just walked away from us and then back down into the woods.🐴
