As many of you may know we had to say goodbye to our little mini-Schnauzer, Tia, last April when she became ill. Not having a dog left a hole in our lives, especially for my husband,David, who used to take Tia everywhere with him. So in May we got in touch with Irene Wessler, of Sensation Schnauzers, the breeder we got Tia from. We went onto the list of those waiting for a puppy. In August we got the good news. Puppies had arrived and there was a girl for us. We went out to see the pups. It was fun to see all the little ones. Their mother was very protective and growled at us to keep our distance.
September 14 was the day we picked her up. Right from the start she was a brave little pup. When we got her home we walked with her outside around our property and she bounded along beside us.
Inside we had set up a small pen for her with a crate, water bowl and a mat for her to lie on . The breeder had given us a toy and a blanket that all the puppies had slept with the night before. That seemed to comfort her and she snuggled into the crate with the blanket and soft toy. Once she is house trained we will dispense with the pen. She does come out into the kitchen sometimes to have a look around.
We have a baby gate to keep her in the kitchen area. She is interested to know what goes on in the world beyond.
Sometimes she just likes to relax on the mat in her pen area. An old sock with a ball inside it makes a good toy!
She has been very good at night . David keeps her in a crate right beside his bed. He said that the first night he kept waking up wondering if she was OK but she slept right through.
She loves to go outside, bouncing and running around on the grass outside. We live in the country and are surrounded by farmers fields, so there is plenty of space for her to run and play. She has also been into the park, in the town near where we live, and has done well with a harness and leash.
We are calling her June. Just about a month ago a very good friend of mine died. She was a great animal lover and often took in rescued dogs to foster till they could be found a furever home. My friend’s name was June.
