Biasini Speaks About Stress!!

Dear Humans, I know you think we horses do not have stress in our lives. You say we have all our meals prepared for us, we have nice stables to live in and paddocks to go out in, the best veterinary care, grooming, carrots and treats. How could we have stress? Ma Leueen tells me Humans have stress about Billz and More Gages and a lot of stuff. But we horses do have stress and I would like to tell you about three things that cause us stress.ย

1.Sickness

I want to tell you about my friend Roo Pert. He was in the paddock next to me and we always used to chat and play around. One day, not so long ago, we were playing and then he said he didn’t feel so well. We stopped playing. Then he lay down. “C’mon Roo” I said, “Let’s play some more.”ย  “I can’t Beebs,” he replied. “My insides are hurting something awful. I can’t get up and play.” I knew he was in real trouble. We needed a human. Where are they when you need them?ย  But then I saw Barn Manager Carl. He had spotted Roo on the ground and was heading out to get him. He got him up and took him inside. Later we horses learned Roo had to go to the hospital. We were all worried. Next day we listened to the Humans talking about Roo. We hear everything you know! Roo had to be opened up and some parts of his insides cut out! Yes! That night we horses were all talking about it and we were all upset. Tattoo said he had been opened up once and it was not nice but he recovered. Then we felt a bit better that Roo’s chances were good. If Tattoo could do it so could Roo.

Roo came home a few days ago. He said he feels better but he has to stay in his stall all the time other than being taken out by a Human to be walked. Well we horses were all relieved and welcomed him back. It is very stressful to be sick and stressful if a fellow horse friend is sick.ย

2. Being For Sale

I was born in Germany and Coach Belinda bought me when I was pretty young. When she decided to sell me she did not send me to a sale barn she kept me in my usual stall at the barn at home. Ma Leueen was the second person who came to try me and I knew right away we were going to get on really well. But some horses are not so lucky. They are put up for sale and sent away to a barn where a lot of horses are for sale. They are tried by a lot of different people and it is hard for we horses to know what the different riders want.ย  If they are lucky they go to a nice person who will take good care of them. But the process of being up for sale is so hard. Not knowing who will take you is stressful.ย

Being retired.

Ma Leueen has told me that when we get older we won’t be training and competing all the time. We will still be together and can go on hacks in the forest together. She has promised me she will not leave me out in a paddock not knowing where she is and what is happening. She will still look after me and make sure I have horse friends to spend time with.ย  We horses like our jobs and when our working days are over we don’t want to be just cast aside. We understand we cannot be young and working forever but we do want to know we are still valued.ย

Those are the three things that we horses can have stress about. If you, Dear Humans, could just remember that and talk to us to let us know what is happening it would help us a lot.ย

Till next time Dear Humans.

You are so lucky to have Ma Leueen, Biasini! I can tell she loves you’ll with the lovely names she gives you’ll.
PS. We humans love to hear from you too ๐Ÿ˜‰! I hope Roo is receiving nicely just as Tattoo did ๐Ÿ’•!

Thank you Jessy Human. I am so happy to know you like to hear from we horses. Yes Roo is doing very well and he is behaving himself well with having to stay in his stall apart from walking with a human, usually Barn Manager Carl.or his own human.๐ŸŽ

๐Ÿ’• I’m glad to hear that!

    Dear Biasini,
When you told us about “being on sale”, it really touches my heart. I imagined you all stood in stressful condition, waited for humans to get you home. Even though you did not follow those procedures as other horses might have, I am glad knowing that you and Anne found yourself each other and being best friends afterwards..

Thank you Nurul Human. I appreciate your very understanding and sympathetic comment. I am also so glad tht Ma Leueen found me!

My old man is retired now, but absolutely still loves to know he is valued. I took him out for a brief ride a few weeks ago, only to be rewarded by forward ears and a happy horse beneath me. I wrote today about how much he has been enjoying teaching people to gallop. It makes me so happy to see him continue to work and find joy in living and moving.

Thank you for this comment Austen Human. We horses love to know we are valued. I am happy to hear your older fellow is still able to pass on some knowledge to humans.

Oh you horses value friendship so much, that’s a great news. I feel there is very valuable reason, you don’t want to feel stress that is you are always very useful to humans even after you retire you give us happiness.

Subbashini Human I always enjoy your comments so much. Ma Leueen tells me she thinks you live far away which is sad as I would love to meet you.๐ŸŽ

Yes she’s right. I physically live very far away from you, even I have a thought whether I can touch you once. But the picture and words you and your Ma shares here makes me to feel we are very close. You both gives me something new that I can share with my eldest daughter my younger one is too small to learn these things as they both have nine years of age difference between them, but she enjoys the video and pictures you both shares here.

Thank you again Subbashini Human. We will have to continue to communicate by blob or as Ma Leueen calls it ‘blog’. My very best regards to you and to your daughter. ๐ŸŽ

So glad to hear your friend is better Biasini. Stress is a funny thing sometimes you don’t even know how stressed you are till it’s all done. Don’t stress too much though, you are one of the lucky ones ๐Ÿ™‚

Dear Biasini, we can understand the stress you feel when a friend is sick, when you are for sale and the changes that come with retirement. You are blessed that Ma Leueen will look after you and take you for nice hacks. Retirement will also give you more time for blogging when you fancy it. We are so happy Roo Pert is back and hope he will make a full recovery. We wish you all a wonderful weekend! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿฅ•

We all have to deal with stress under quite many forms, dear Biasini, you’re right, but I also see (feel) you’re optimistic and positive about things coming your way, as everyone should try to be as much as possible. Of course it helps very much to have people who care about you to count on, that is so important! Wishing you well with everything, as many joyful moments as can be, and a nice December too! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you so much Nicole Human. I wish you a good December too. Soon it will be the winter festival which means we horses all get extra treats.๐ŸŽ

  13. DizzytheDonkey Avatar

These all sound very stressful things for horses to worry about Biasini! I am glad your horsey friend is much better now though. ๐Ÿ™‚ What’s your top tip for if you do start to feel a little stressed about things? xxx

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I lower my head and neck. That may sound odd to you but we horses relax and breath better when our heads are lower. I also try to eat my hay and carry on as if I’m not anxious. I know I can’t get into pawing the ground or pacing in circles in my stall or running the fence outside. That just makes me feel worse. I also like to talk to my friends. When I’m on the long trip to Florida I don’t have friends but there are other horses to talk to and so we help each other. Please say hello to Dizzy for me. Ma Leueen showed me a photo of him in his winter hoof warmers. Nice!๐ŸŽ

What wonderful words of wisdom Biasini, as I’ve seen too many sad horses at many different stables over the years and I know they just need some humans to care for them. And yes, stress comes in all different ways. I’m glad your herd mate survived the colic surgery and pray he continues to thrive. I plan on taking care of my two ponies till the end even through retirement. Bless us all for LOVING such beautiful animals, the horse. Thank you Biasini, Diana

Diana Human I am really touched by your comment. I recognize you are a true horse person and your ponies are very lucky. Thank you !๐ŸŽ

Best post I read today! So heart-warming ๐Ÿ’• and โ€œbeing on saleโ€ sounds like a very stressful word ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ™€

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Victoria Human you’ve got it. I am so lucky I didn’t have to suffer through that for too long and I didn’t have to leave my home which helped a lot. Thanks for your comment.๐ŸŽ

That’s a sweet post. Of course horses can feel stress as well. A very kind Icelandic Horse I had years ago lost a friend, a mare that he spent most of his days with, to colic. It was heart breaking to see him dealing with his grief, not leaving the spot where he had last seen her. It took a long time, and a move to another boarding facility to help him create new positive memories.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you Sagittarius Human for understanding how we horses feel. I’m glad you recognized the horse was very sad and low after his friend was gone. I appreciate your comment very much.๐ŸŽ
