Monday Minstrel: Back to Work!

After two weeks enjoying a wonderful holiday I’m back to work. Well, I’m actually retired so it’s not like I’m back-to-my-desk in an office. But as I sat at breakfast,on Sunday, with that jet lag, half-a-bubble-off-trim feeling and contemplated what was ahead this week it did feel like work. The garden has gone mad while I was away, I have a competition coming up in three weeks so Biasini and I will be in full training mode, and ….and….and…!

Then, on the CBC radio, I heard an interview with Barbara Hillary. I had never heard of this remarkable woman before. She skied to the North Pole in 2007 and five years later skied to the South Pole in 2011. She was the first African-American woman to reach both poles. And guess what else……. she was 75 when she reached the North Pole and 79 when she reached the South Pole. Here is something she said that lit up my jet lagged brain.  “All of us can reach a North Pole.”

With that I set about one section of garden and reclaimed it.  Then I went to the  barn and took Biasini for a nice hack. I told him that we will start training work on Monday, just like the rest of the working world.

Wow! It’s not even the age so much as the method in which this remarkable lady arrived at each pole…of course factor in the age and that adds to the inspirational impact IMHO…
So great to hear your garden benefited from such inspiration – HA!

Yes HA to the garden. There is quite a bit of work still to be done. A fairly major overhaul us needed as the garden was planted some years ago and some things have grown too much and others are not thriving at all. Well I will continue, one section at a time. And yes she SKIED! She had to prove her fitness when she arrived at the Russian station before they would send someone out with her. They loaded up a sled with a huge load and told her she had to harness herself to it and pull it. She did and they agreed send a guide with her!

Incredible…I wonder if she was an athlete in her younger days?

I don’t know. I will have to Google her and find out more.

Fabulous. How great that you heard that interview. Although, I do not doubt that you would have found the inspiration to light your fire! Here is to your garden and training with B!

I always liked the old saying: ‘Success by the yard is hard; inch by inch it’s a cinch.’
Welcome back, Anne! Hugs to Biasini.
