Monday Minstrel: Signs! Signs! Everywhere Signs!

“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin’ out the scenery, breakin’ my mind
Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign?”

Does anyone else remember the ‘Five Man Electrical Band’ song from back in the day? Well, there were a number of signs at the Winter Equestrian Festival, held in the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, that brought that song to mind. But they were all there for a purpose, not to block out the scenery, or “break” my mind.  Here they are…

I would think fast horses should have the right of way. 🙂

At the WEF it’s horses vs golf carts so even slow horses get the right of way. LOL! Thanks for you comment i appreciate it!

Like another commenter I had never seen a horses have the right of way sign, I guess I hang out in all the wrong places! 🙂

Wondering–if the “slow horses” have the right of way, what about the fast ones? Laughing at the expense of inadequate or nonexistent punctuation…

HaHA! Yes! Well all the horses are slow as they are mostly being led by grooms. Some are ridden but always at a walk. The signs are pretty entertaining though.

‘Horses have right of way’ is a new one for me!

The WEF showground is a very busy place. With golf carts all over the place and hundreds of horses. They want to give right of way to horses over golf carts. It’s amazing to see it.

        A very necessary thing!

Of course, I sang that. 😀

I love that song! These are fun signs. And I like the fractured Spanish in the second sign.

Yes! All of the grooms who do the bathing of the horses are Latinos from Mexico, Central America, Argentina etc. But the sign writers are English speakers i suspect.

It is a song that several people seem to remember! Glad you enjoyed the signs.

    I remember.

The golf cart seems a little … odd.

Golf carts are used a lot at some of the big horse shows. The show grounds can be huge and things are very spread out so people use golf carts to get from the show office back to the stabling area or to the warm up or competition rings. The WEF( Winter Equestrian Festival) has a plethora of golf carts and scooters. Dressage shows have less of them. The hunter jumper people ( who show at WEF) have grooms that bring the horses all prepared to the ringside and the riders, coaches etc all zip about on their golf carts. Some of the grooms have scooters. I think that dressage riders ( myself included) unless they are professionals, do not have grooms. They do their own braiding, grooming, bathing, etc and there a fewer golf carts.

So interesting. Behind the scenes at these big shows always interests me more than the events, I suspect.

My husband is the same. He likes to wander about the show, sometimes taking my horse for a walk, and see who is where and why and he is great at eavesdropping on some of the bigger players conversations! 🙂

            That’s the spirit!
