Biasini Speaks: Life Isn’t Perfect!

Life isn’t perfect is it Dear Humans? We all know that don’t we?  As you may know I am spending the winter in Florida and, yes, I am very lucky to be here. I have heard that the weather back home has been dreadful and cold and miserable. So I am happy to be here where it is warmer.  But it is not perfect. Nope.

So what is less than perfect about being here in Florida? Well just a couple of things.

  1. When it rains it pours and I’m talking about sheets of rain. It rains so hard that when I look out my stall window I can’t even see that far. And that rain means we will not be getting turnout the next day. At home it rains too and we just go out into the mud. But here it isn’t mud. The rains forms huge puddles that don’t sink into the ground. It just sits there and the humans don’t want we horses to be standing in water. So no turnout.  I’m disappointed but I get over it. I have my hay fed to me in a nibble net so it lasts longer and  I always have something to do with eating my hay. My neighbor Mesanto gets in such a BAD mood when he can’t go out to the paddocks.  Whoa!  He puts his ears back and tries to bite any horses or humans going past his stall door. He sometimes kicks the stall boards between us and says: “I HATE this! Hate it! I’m so bored!”   And then he grumbles on. Here’s me doing an imitation of him. IMG_20180113_1423404
  2. The Florida Grot.  What is that you ask?  Well I can’t give you a scientific breakdown but it is something in the soil that when we roll it gets stuff onto our skin and then we break out in small bumps.  Here is a photo of me that I asked my human Ma Leueen to take.  I have been clipped before we left home and the dark patch is where my fur was not clipped as this is where the saddle sits.  So my skin looks quite good doesn’t it?

IMG_20180113_1423032

But…..here is a close up look at the skin on my shoulder.

IMG_20180113_1421211You see those bumps! That , my Dear Humans , is the Florida Grot.  Ma Leueen does not like these bumps and she washes the bumpy bits with a special soap and then sprays on something.

All the humans get upset about the Grot. They all have different ideas about what to put on it or do about it but all of them think they have to take immediate action.  My friend Mesanto has it on his back and his human would not allow him to be turned out to the paddock earlier this past week. He was furious. And he let her know about it. Yipes! So she relented and he got to go out but then it rained and none of us could go out.

So, as you can see Dear Humans, life is not perfect. But to be honest as long as I have my hay and my three meals a day and Ma Leueen comes to see me and give me some carrots I’m happy.  Till next time Dear Humans be happy and stay  well! Here’s me just chillin’ while Ma Leueen gives me a brushing. .

Aww, poor B! At least it is not freezing! My horses get a little something similar in the summer.

Biasini replies: thank you for the sympathy Avery Human. The grot has cleared up and then re appeared in a different spot but Ma Leueen looks after it!

        You have a great mamma!

Well, this is possibly the ONLY benefit with living in the extremely hot and arid summer heat here – not very many skin conditions at all. Never thought about it, but we really don’t get much of it. Well, instead, humans almost die from heat exhaustion from riding in heat for 5 months, but, minor stuff 😉

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I think you have a dry heat too is that right? It is the warm humidity ( that tropical touch) that breeds so many little lurghies!. But we survive.

Yep, like a hair dryer straight up your eye ball if there’s a bit of a summer wind. I still can’t quite grasp it, even after all these years…

HaHa! I love your sense of humor!

Dear pondering Biasini chilling. 🙂 I wish you both that the Florida Grot goes away soon, and the rainy days! Wishing you a very nice week ahead, in spite of the small… imperfections!

Thank you Doar Nicole Human. I appreciate your kind wishes. It was sunny today and Ma Leueen is looking after the grot.

Good to see you getting brushed up by Ma Leueen, I think you feel wonderful. Sorry about the grot I wish you will get well soon.

Thank you Subbashini Human. I did enjoy the brushing. Thank you for being sympathetic about my grot.

Florida Grot looks horrible! I have heard that Florida is mostly built on sand. With all that rain it doesn’t sound very healthy to me. Good job you don’t live there all year round.

Heat and humidity breeds lots of things. BIasini’s grot is not too bad but i am continuing to treat it. Thanks for the sympathy.

I am sorry, Biasini. It sounds crummy to be stuck inside because of the rain. And the grot! Yuck. What a bummer. To top it off, you have a really grumpy neighbor, huh? I was hoping to cheer up your day with a couple of jokes. Maybe, if you like them, you can tell them to Mesanto to try and cheer him up as well. Okay, here you go:
A pony goes to the doctor and tells him, “Doc, I think I’m dying. I have this terrible sore throat.”
The doctor assures him, “It’s okay—you’re just a little horse.”
    Haha….Or, there is this one:
Q: What did the horse say when it fell?
    A: “I’ve fallen and I can’t giddyup!”
Hopefully that has cheered your day up some – feel free to share them around the stable and hopefully make Mesanto a bit merrier!
A final one for the road:
Q: What is the best type of story to tell a runaway horse?
    A: A tale of WHOA!
    🙂

Thank you Robyn Human! I like the jokes and i told the last one to Mesanto and he neighed right out loud. Camilla , who is on the other side of the aisle also gave a little nicker. I appreciate you taking the time to send me these jokes i shall be entertaining with them through the night!

Biasini, your imitation of Mesanto is hilarious. Just be sure you don’t do it so often that it becomes part of you, too!
BTW- perfect is way overrated, hang in there!
    🙂

Thank you Laura Human for that very good reminder about the pursuit of the perfect. I am certainly happy to be in warmer weather and today the sun was shining!

I’m sorry about the Grot – – my Labrador used to be allergic to certain grasses, he was fond of wiggling on his back in hot weather, and would then develop bumps and inflammation, but I never figured out which plants or grasses caused it. But I’m fond of carrots, too, so I’m sure that helps.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you Robert Human. I think there is something in the dirt or the grasses. interesting to know dogs get grot like we horses! And yes carrots are delicious!
