The Magic of Horses

When I started this blog I assumed I would be writing for riders and most probably dressage riders.  But the response I began to see was unexpected. People who rode, who did not ride, had only ridden as children, had never ridden, had never had anything to do with horses, were responding to my blog posts. I began to realize that horses have a universal appeal. An appeal that transcends nationality, background, age, and language.  Here are some of the responses I received.

I used to teach an autistic little boy. He was a ray of sunshine once on horseback, his energy astounded and delighted me. I’ll never forget him. “

“This reminds me of my childhood. It’s a love which is still in me.”

“All these years and I still don’t have the answer to exactly why I ride”.

If I didn’t have my horse it would have been tough to get through the curveballs that life has thrown at me.”

“Horses are so wonderfully majestic.”

“It was my dream to be a jockey.”

There would be questions about horses. Questions about the daily life of my horse, about his equipment, about his training.  Questions about how a horse travels to the Olympics,  how horses are cared for, how people become top riders and how did horses help someone recover from illness or disability.

I started this blog at the end of March 2016 and as of today there have been 100,876 views and 60,767 visitors and what has drawn people to this blog…..horses.  Horses have a presence  and a beauty that appeals to people no matter where they are from.  It is  magic.  I thought I would like to devote this post to the horses who have starred in my blog posts with some photographs I have taken of them.

I agree, horses give people a special connection and the horse world alone is a special connection! I can only wish and hope my blog will bring everyone together like yours!

First off – you look a bit like Princess Diana in the picture with the Royal Horse and the Queen’s Guard on top. (In the meantime, the horse is wanting to mug your purse!)
Love how you’ve created a large following of “non-horsey” people. More horse love, passion, amazement, and curiosity is always great – the more the merrier. Having just a little bit of “horse” in ones daily life is beneficial on so many levels, whether it’s riding, grooming, care taking, or, simply just reading about them!

I gave that horse in the posts I wrote about the Cavalry Blacks. and yes he thought I had a treat in there. He knew I was a horsey person and if I did have a treat I would have given it to him!

Guard is holding his breath 😉

He kept an eye on me for sure but he could probably recognize I was a horse person as opposed to the small child whose parents allowed her to run up and stand under the horse’s head and reach up and bop him on the nose!! I noticed there is a button on the side of the little place the horse and guard stand in and I assume it is an alarm that will bring out some guards on foot to deal with a serious problem!

I love your blog and your posts.
You are so right with what you said, horses bring us together. They have this innate way of making us humans see the world in such a different light and once you know how it feels to be with a horse you can’t ever stop. It’s a wonderful feeling. I sometimes just hug my Freddy and smell his mane and then I sigh, everything in the world doesn’t matter in that moment and he nuzzles into me; like hey, Mel it’s all gonna be ok! They read us and feel us and want to help us. They are the most beautiful creature and should be treated with kindness and love always

    Keep blogging mate

Love, love, love horses. I spent pretty much my whole childhood in a stable with these fantastic creatures. They mean a whole lot to me and that’s why I love reading your blog. I always loved the fact , as you also mention , that the sport goes beyond age, gender, borders… we can all ride together no matter the differences.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you Miss A! I’m happy you are enjoying the horsey posts. Yes we can all ride together!

Thank YOU for creating this space and sharing with us. Horses definitely have a magic about them that words often can not capture. It has to be seen and felt to truly understand. Your photos and writings allow people a glimpse. I myself have tried to write on it and hope to have given people the same. To share what they mean to me and what they have done for me. It is amazing the things that horses have allowed us to do. To see and feel.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

I think you do pass on the love of horses and the relationship with them. I love your photos and the videos you post. Your writing is joyful and optimistic even when you are struggling through a busy time. So let us both keep in keeping on!
