Biasini Speaks: Even Olympians do it!

Hello again Dear Humans!  I promised I would be back to tell you about the work I have been doing with Coach Belinda while Ma Leueen is recovering from her surgery. And  I bet you are wondering about the title of this post. What does it mean….Even Olympians do it!  Do what you are asking . Well, I’ll tell you. They practice riding with no stirrups. This is a big deal with humans, this riding with no stirrups thing. Ma Leueen had to do it during the summer and one day this week Coach Belinda rode without stirrups. And she is an Olympian. In fact she’s been to the Olympics twice! This is a very big deal.

So how does it feel for we horses when we are ridden by stirrup less riders?  When Ma Leueen does it I can feel her lower leg on me very clearly and when she wants me to put more weight on my hind legs and push off more I can tell that is what she  wants. When Coach Belinda rides with no stirrups it is pretty much the same . She always has her lower leg steady on my side.  Anyway  I asked Ma Leueen to take some video for you to see. Here is Coach Belinda, Olympian,  riding with no stirrups. Oh, and check out my cool  blue leg wraps!  I’m getting ready for Florida with those!

We did quite a lot of work on the canter half pass. I have no idea why humans call it a half pass. and not a whole pass.  I guess it is because we go across the arena at an angle instead of going directly sideways.  Let me describe for you what it is like for we horses to do this. We are turned onto the diagonal and our heads keep looking toward the other side of the arena. Then we are asked to bend our bodies like a banana and be crossing our legs with each stride while we keep looking straight to the other side of the arena. Let me tell you it is not easy. So my answer has always been to ask for help.  I’ve asked Ma Leueen or Coach Belinda to carry my shoulders and my neck and my head. Well it turns out that is NOT OK. So coach Belinda has worked on letting me know that I have to carry my own shoulders and my own head and my own neck and bend like a banana and look across the arena  and do it all like it was easy peasy!  Well……. I got it. TA DA!!  And Coach Belinda was very happy with me. Here is the video proof.

And just to finish off I’d like to show you some of my fabulous trot work from another day this week. I think you will be impressed with this trot and the shoulder in. I know I am!!

That is all for now Dear Humans. Till next time……Happy Trails!

Your… half pass and trot work are very cute, elegant, too! “Let me tell you, dear Biasini, that I find out quite many new things from your amazing explanations, about how you feel when you have to do the… no-stirrups riding, about other details as well. Thank you very much!” 🙂
Such nice photo, I love Biasini’s… white star, so-called by me. 🙂

Hi Biasini, my horse Nonie asked me to let you know that she also finds it very hard to carry her shoulders, neck and head and bend too! She said it makes her feel a bit better to know that she isn’t the only who finds this very hard! She will be visualising your beautiful half pass when she works on it tomorrow.

Biasini replies: ” Hello Nonie! Yes it is difficult but you can do it. I think the trick is that you need to build up your muscles in your bum ( sorry I don’t mean to be rude) and then once yo have them strong it is easier to carry from behind and lift up the front…if you see what I mean. All the best to you Nonie!”

My granddaughter would SO love you Biasini. She has been practicing cornering on her horse Cosmo and they’re working on it but it’s coming along very slowly. Somehow I think you might be able to show them a thing or two!

Biasini replies: ” hello Tina human! Tell your Grandoffspring that the corners are her friend. She can use corners to set up for what comes next ; a jump on the long side or a dressage movement. It’s boring to practice corners but once she gets it it will make a big difference!”

Oh. More stirrup less canter over here then. Belinda does it beautifully.
Both of you, actually, are truly beautiful riders!!

Thank you Elinor. That is a big compliment coming from you. I admire Belinda very much as a rider, trainer and coach. It is an honor to be able to work with her. Thanks so much for this comment.

Biasini, I am impressed by your complicated moves.
Your blue wraps are quite snazzy. Can you explain why you wear them and how they relate to Florida? Please enlighten this uniformed human.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Biasini replies:” thank you for this question Sandy. On my legs I have a soft quilted pad and then the colored polo wraps. These have a bit of stretch in them. This combination gives me protection in case I accidentally hit the inside of my leg while doing some of these sideways moves, and the polo wraps give me a bit of extra support for my tendons and ligaments. And I have no idea why they are called “polo”. These snazzy ones are for Florida because they are a nice bright color and in Florida bright colors are the thing to have. I do hope that will answer your enquiry. I’m so happy you asked as I love passing on information about we horses.”

      1. sandyjwhite Avatar

Very interesting. It makes sense to protect and support your legs, Biasini. And you might as well fit in with the other Florida horses by wearing the “in” color.

You are a very fortunate horse to have such awesome humans to work with!!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Biasini replies:” I agree. I am rather lucky. Of course they are lucky to have me as a horse to ride. Not all horses work as hard as I do! Thank you for commenting. I love hearing from the humans.”

Dear Biasini, I learn so much about dressage terminology and what the various movements mean for you. It looks like you are working very hard! Your blue leg wraps are indeed very stylish
