Biasini Speaks: I’ve got a Buzz Cut!

Hello Dear Humans! It’s that time of year again. Time for my Buzz Cut!.  Now that the days are getting shorter we horses start to grow our thicker coats ready for winter. I was born in the north of Germany and if I still lived there and was living outside 24/7 I would need a good thick , heavy, coat of fur.  However, as you know Dear Humans, I do not live there now and I do not live outside and I am in work five days a week. And besides the days may be getting shorter but the weather has been the warmest it has been all year!

Every year at this time Ma Leueen gets her friend Sue to come to the barn and use electric clippers to clip off my fur.  This year especially , with the warm weather, I was happy to see her setting things up for my clip.  I know that some horses do not co-operate with humans clipping them but I am very well behaved.  Here is a photo of Friend Sue clipping me.

You can see that she is taking off a lot of fur. Here is how much she took off once she was finished. That mound is about four inches high and  15 inches in diameter. Ma Leueen just sweeps it up and it goes into the muck bucket. I think it should be saved to stuff a cushion with…..just sayin.

It takes almost an hour and a half to do a full clip and then Ma Leueen puts on my lounging jacket and I go back to my stall for dinner. What  could be better?

Friend Sue does a very good job of my buzz cut. All the other horses always admire it. I will get it done again before I go to Florida because it will grow back a bit and need to be trimmed up. The Florida horses comment on it as well. “Hey Biasini,” they say. “That’s such a cool buzz cut you’ve got. So neat all over.”  I should add that some horses get buzz cuts that are not so good and look a bit messy but not mine! Mine is exceptional.

On the weekend Ma Leueen and I went out for a stroll in the forest. Now we horses do not go by a calendar but we know the days are getting shorter and our winter coats are growing in and usually the leaves on the trees give us a wonderful display of color: bright yellows, oranges, and reds.  But this year the leaves are not doing too much. All  the humans have been talking about it. The leaves are just turning sort of brown or pale yellow and falling to the ground and lots of leaves have not changed color at all. The humans are all saying it is because we have had such hot weather at the wrong time or we had too much rain in the summer or that we are having something called “climate change”.  I’m not too sure what that is but I think it means a change in the weather that is not normal. In any case here is a photo of the forest and you can see that it still looks greener than it usually does at this time of year, my buzz cut time of year. You can also see that there are lots of leaves on the ground too that are just yellow and brown. IMG_20171008_1129202

I like the colors to be brighter and more red  because it matches my buzz cut coat. Oh well…..   That’s all for now Dear Humans.  Till next time Happy Trails to you .

Yes to the buzz cut! My Baldur always grows a thick coat. Last year, we could fill a whole wheelbarrow with his coat!

If I left Biasini for another two or three weeks he would be able to fill at least half a wheelbarrow. He’ll be clipped again in December and that will last through the winter.

It’s too bad all that hair can’t be spun into thread to weave a horse blanket.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Biasini replies: “I agree Lulu. It would make a nice soft blanket.”

Have a happy time Biasini, nice knowing about your Buzz cut.

Biasini replies: “Thank you Subbashini. I’m glad you liked my story. :

Looking good, Biasini! Way to be a good horse through the whole procedure, too!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Biasini replies: “thank you Robyn. There is another horse at the barn who has to have a; needle with drugs to get him to be calm enough to be clipped. Well who need that? I wouldn’t want that because then I wouldn’t; be able to eat my dinner when Friend Sue was finished clipping.”

I like the leaves to be red too, Biasini! And I love your new buzz cut!! Looking handsome in it!! <3

Biasini replies:” Thank you Elizabeth. And I’m glad you like red leaves too.”

Biasini you look great with your hair cut! They don’t shave us corgis, instead I have to get brushed. The pile I make isn’t quite as large as yours but it’s close! And even though I’m black the pile is mostly grey. Mum says she could make another corgi with it. Glad you are nice and cool now! – Zora the corgi.

Biasini replies: ” Zora! I hear you are a very big star and that you cleaned up at a big Championship! Way to go! Interesting that you don’t get clipped. Ma Leueen and Carrot Man David have a little dog and she does get clipped. I guess her hair does not shed out so she has to be clipped. Anyway thanks for leaving a comment for me.”

Thanks Biasini, yes these humans are funny they seem to think ribbons and such are a big deal. I think having fun, chasing balls and hot dogs are a big deal. If ribbons get me even more fun then ok with me. Yes some dogs get shaved and some like me don’t. we have this dog teddy who visits that my mum shaves every month but she never comes near me with those clippers just the brush.

Tell Biasini I think he looks quite dapper with his buzz cut!
Our trees are slow to change this year also.
I hope to see some color before the leaves drop.

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Biasini replies: ” thank you for this nice compliment. Ma Leueen agrees with you about the leaves.”

A beautiful buzz cut Biasini and so lovely to hear how relaxed you are through it all! :o) xxx

Biasini replies: ” thank you and I find it is a good time to just chill and think about the meaning of life. Lol….just kidding!”

        Haha! ;o) xxx

I loved my horse’s fuzzy coat. He was a flea-bitten gray, and every spring it looked like it snowed around him. 😀

    1. anne leueen Avatar

When my daughter’s first horse retired she lived out and grew a wonderful coat. She was chestnut and the snowflakes would sit on top of her thick coat . I can imagine your “white” horse shedding out his snow coat.

There’s nothing like a haircut to make you feel all giddy!

Biasini replies: “Indeed! I feel so much fresher.”
