Happy to be Home!

We had a wonderful time  on holiday in London; visiting with our son, taking a tour of some very interesting “Iconic Abodes” and just being in the great city of London. Yes, there was a bomb on the Underground and luckily it did not explode with it’s full force. But we still travelled on the “Tube”.  I lived in London during the IRA campaign in the 1970’s  so I know that London is a mighty resilient city and we would not be put off Tube travel either. But it was nice to get home.

I went to the barn and Biasini was out in his paddock. We have had a sudden blast of hot and humid weather which has produced a hatching of flies so he has his fly sheet on. I called to him and he came over to the gate and seemed to be happy to see me. I was certainly happy to see him!

I was still on British time and had woken up at about 3am so I felt it was not the day for any real dressage work. So I opted to go for a trail ride through the woods.  Although the temperature is well above average for September there are fall colors appearing with the Sumach changing to red and the Goldenrod in bloom at the sides of the trail.

Once we had done the loop in the woods we went  up the  hill and into the forest. On our way we met up with Erin who was riding Anton. We took a trail through the forest.

The forest is another world. Erin  commented that when you are riding in the forest it always seems like the  best possible thing to do. And I know the horses would agree!

Glad you were okay in London, so terrible. The woods are beautiful this time of year. Like you, we had an onslaught of heat and humidity. The flies were relentless today. I’m looking forward to cooler climes and scenic, wooded rides.

Glad you had a fun and safe time in London. I bet it’s nice to be home and get in some last few trail rides before the rain comes back in full force to BC. I really hope we do not get as much rain as we did last year.

I’m in Ontario and we have the hottest weather of the year . Up to 40 Celsius humidex! Today 42 with humidex so trail rides are the best idea. End of the week the temps go down. Thanks for your comment!

My favorite spot looking through those beautiful ears! Your so lucky to be able to ride through the forests. I have bountiful trails but they are within a suburban area. We do have a riverbed that gets us out of housing but my horses have lameness issues and can’t ride that far. It’s all good though, still love our trails. Welcome home. My daughter wants to go to Europe next year. Maybe I’ll be able to join her. Your blogs are inspiring! – Diana

Thank you. I am honored that you find my posts inspiring! I am very lucky to be at a barn that is adjacent to a large forest tract conservation area with lots of trails.

Hope you had a wonderful trip! Your boy certainly looked happy to see you home.

What I wouldn’t give for some trails like that around my place.

Thank you we did have a very good holiday. I think Biasini is happy to have me back. We are so lucky at Oakcrest Farm as the property is adjacent to a large forest tract of conservation land that has many trails.

I love to ride in the forest! It’s so soothing, plus you get to put into practice all your arena work. I just wish there were more places to do it here where I live.

I think there are actual scientifically proven benefits to being in the forest. I read an article posted by a German blogger recently that said that the trees give off some sort of pherome (?) and that is it good for us physically. Mentally it certainly is a peaceful place and I am so lucky that the barn here is adjacent to a large regional conservation area and we can hack out to our hearts content. Thanks for your comment.
