I never thought those words would be apt for a death in 2017. RIP Heather Heyer. This week the news really got me down. Charlottesville and then the BBC reporting the mass burial of hundreds killed in the mudslide in Sierra Leone and then Barcelona.
But….. then I saw this.
This grounded me in my love of horses and the knowledge that horses know us better than we know ourselves. Horses can see right through any external bravado. If we are pretending we are ok and in fact underneath that we are not then the horse will be uneasy with us. Then know something is not right.
The reason the horses in this video accept these veterans is because the veterans have admitted they are in difficulty. They are not trying to hide anything.
There is a Native legend , it may be Navajo and if anyone reading this knows please let me know in a comment below, that tells of the Creator assembling all the animals and saying to them:” Now I am going to create humans. I need someone to come forward and volunteer to look after the humans.”
There was a long pause.
Then the horse stepped up.
“I will look after the humans,” the horse said.
