Monday Minstrel: Nathaniel Hawthorne Quote

MM quote-7603

I heard a neigh, oh such a brisk and melodious neigh it was. My very heart leapt with the sound.”

—-Nathaniel Hawthorne ( 1804-1864)  American Novelist. Nathaniel was a descendant of John Hathorne, the only judge of the 1692 Salem witch trials that never repented of his actions. Nathaniel added a W to his name to remove any connection with him..

It was new to me too. I knew Hawthorne as a writer but did not know of his ancestry and his decision to change his name. Thanks for commenting!
