Now…for Something Completely Different!

The Past Week

Monday   I did my dressage homework. Yes, no stirrups, canter, walk and trot for a total of 29 minutes. I think I’ll just call it 30 minutes if it’s all right by you!

Tuesday  My coach Belinda Trussell is on holiday this week so it is a chance for Biasini to do something completely different; some pole work and a small jump. My jumping days  are over now and even for a small jump it has been too many years since I did it and I might not be able to assist an inexperienced jumper like Biasini. My solution?  Ask Lynsey Rowan!  She is the Intelligently Fearless Rider and what a perfect person to ride Biaisni for this work.

Here is a video. You can see that after the first time over the jump she opens him up down the long side. He loves it!

Wednesday  I took Biasini for a hack in the  York Regional Forest. We are lucky to have access to this forest directly from Oakcrest Farm and three of us set off in the morning as it was going to be a hot day. There were a lot of nasty deer flies but not so bad we had to turn back. Here is a video. Please excuse my poor videography. I am not expert at being on the horse and taking video with my phone.  And note this…..the horse in front of  Biasini was at the Rio Olympics this  time last year.

We were out for just over an hour. On the  way back to the farm we passed through an old growth area of the forest. This is how it would have looked before any logging was done. Beautiful old trees.

Thursday and Friday  I was away helping my daughter and her family move to a new home. So continuing with the ” something different” routine for Biasini, Lynsey will have taken him  hacking in the  forest and also out onto the  big grass field at the farm.  This field has a circular trail, leading off it, through part of the forest . You can go down the hill ,off the field,  canter around the trail and gallop back up the hill onto the field again. I am pretty sure  Lynsey will  have done that one!  Biasini loves it.

It is great to have a break in the dressage work and get the horses out of the arena! Next week Belinda will be back and Biasini and I will be in our usual routine.

Awesome that you give him a ‘vacation’ from his job! Great for the brain AND the body. I use jumping to strengthen my dressage horses all the time.

It is different from your rides on the ranch, being in a forest but it is very nice.

Yes different, but that is part of what makes it so beautiful to me. I have always wanted to haul to East Texas and ride in the pines. We have a small part of our property this is forest like by the river, but nothing like that. One day!!!

I can see how very much Biasini and you bond together. I don’t think it was easy recording the walk through the forest with one hand and holding the reins with the other, all while still riding on the horseback. However, it seems it was all just natural to you. The videos are lovely. 🐎🌲

Oh my lord Anne Leueen can I come live with you? This place is BEAUTIFUL!

    How lucky you both are!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Yes we are lucky. Having this forest adjacent to the farm where I board Biasini is a huge plus.

Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed them despite the shakiness of the ones I did on horseback!

Great videos. We liked seeing it from the riders perspective from behind the ears of the horse.

Thank you. I’m not too good at holding my phone steady with one hand ( other hand is holding the reins) but for the hacking videos it does give you an idea of how nice the forest is.

We can just see you on top of this huge horse, reigns in one hand, phone in the other and not getting wacked with a tree limb. You are good. We’d have been in the bushes while you used the phone to call 911.

        1. anne leueen Avatar

HaHa! Biasini would never have dumped you in the bushes! He’s good that way!

            LOL. Okay we’ll trust him.

Biasini looks a natural over jumps and he seemed to enjoy himself on his hack through the forest. I can imagine he would have loved galloping up the hill too! It is so good to vary the routine and I hope this will be a regular feature! ☺🐎🌲

He does enjoy the jumps I think. I always try to get in some hacking and we are coming up to the best time of year for it in the fall when the bugs are gone.

Ah, this seems like a wonderful week! And I just have to point out that Biasini’s canter looks so freaking amazing! Beautiful!

    1. anne leueen Avatar

Thank you. He does have a wonderful canter and a big but comfortable trot.
