If it is summer, there must be Horse Shows!

This weekend I went to a horse show with my amateur photographer’s hat on instead of my rider’s helmet.  This was a National show presented by Cornerstone Farms Dressage Shows at the Caledon Equestrian Park. This is a very large facility that hosted the Pan American Games Equestrian events.  At this weekend’s show there were 5 dressage rings on the go!

I went to take photos of friends from the barn that I ride with at Oakcrest Farm. Lynsey Rowan, who is the assistant to my coach Belinda Trussell, rode no less than three horses! First up was Beaujolais, owned by Rhegan White, in Training level.

Then Feng de Lys, owned by Linda Jodoin,  in First level.  In this photo Belinda Trussell is going to read the test for Lynsey when the judge rings the bell for the start of the test.

After the test the de-brief. What went well what could be improved?

Ride number three for Lynsey was on  Orion , who Lynsey owns with Carol Levine,in Second level.

The  photo above is my favorite; a happy rider and happy horse.

Another Oakcrest rider Nicole Folland rode her  horse Serrano in Third Level.

There was one other Oakcrest rider Megan Shea, but I could not make it from the ring where Nicole was showing in time to catch Megan’s ride on her young horse. But she got a very good  score and was very happy.

At the interval the water truck comes in. With a Canadian flag eh!

They also serve who stand and wait in the shade on a hot day.

Before I went  home I took a walk down the Memorial Avenue of trees. Here there are stone markers to remember the horses who have gone on.  When my dear horse Tommie went on over the rainbow bridge several friends got together and arranged for Tommie to have a marker at one of the trees.

I was very touched by the kindness of these friends. As I looked at the marker yesterday I felt a large lump in my throat.  He was a wonderful little fellow my Tommie. To read more about him take a look at “When is it time to say goodbye?”

Now that’s a NICE job on picture taking! Well done!
Easier of course, with such magnificent equines and beautiful riders 😉 Love this, and I’m sure all your friends did too!

It was fun and good practice for me with a new long lens. Thanks !

Lovely shots, Anne. You’re not great on riding the horse but also have great eyes behind the camera.

Thank you Nurul. Horses are a moving target so it can be tricky to get just the right moment. But with digital I can take lots and only edit the good ones. I also think that being a rider helps because I know the timing of the horse’s movement and that makes it a bit easier to get the right moment when their legs are in a good position.

Beautiful pictures. Sounds like you have great friends who helped you remember your sweet Tommie! That is wonderful. That is nice you got to see the marker as well and be taken back to his sweet memory 🙂

Beautiful horses! I’m sure you’ve heard of the tryon equestrian center in tryon North Carolina. It’s really close to us and an amazing facility as well.

I have heard it is a stunning facility and will be hosting WEG next year! I am planning on going.

Lovely photos! I would have love to attend something like this. I ride too and I would be so nervous if I had to ride over there!

Competition at the bigger shows is not for everyone and there is nothing wrong with that. I have shown at Global in Wellington and it can be very busy but I like it.

I can see the concentration in Serrano’s face. A wonderful shot,
    as are the others, Anne.

Thank you! Serrano takes his job of showing very seriously.

I’m so sorry for your loss 😔

Thank you for the sympathy. Tommie has been gone for several years now but when I saw the memorial I was reminded that I still miss him. But I am so lucky to have Biasini now who is a wonderful horse and works so hard.
