I’m in my Happy Boots!

Last week was a great one!  Sometimes in working with a horse it can be frustrating and discouraging. Sometimes I feel I am just not making any progress. I am just not getting anywhere. But not this past week!  There are some very basic things that have fallen into place. I have grasped what is needed with the canter.

When I posted a couple of weeks ago about the new level of the canter we were working on and I was concerned that I might not be able to re-create it in the  show ring this coming weekend. Well I am not worried about that now. I have a clear idea of how I need to ride to achieve it and Biasini has grasped what he’s being asked for.

Here is a photo that was taken at our last show in Florida. This photo captured a very good moment.  I can tell you that we did not have this at all times during our test. So here is what is good about the canter in this photo. You can see that his hindquarters are engaged and he is bringing  his hind leg under him. His shoulder and neck are up in front. His neck is rounded and up and his head is at the vertical, nose not behind nor in front. Now we have that canter  much more consistently not just for a fleeting moment.

So I am looking forward to the show. I am in my Happy Boots!

😁 that’s great! 😁 I know that feeling. I had to train my own parakeet (nothing like this but still) and it took a long time and there were definitely frustrating days. Congrats!

Training a parakeet would have challenges as well I am sure. But good for you to take that on. Communicating with another species whether horse or bird is a wonderful and often humbling thing to do.

Sounds like teaching school – day after day of putting in the effort and work of molding better behavior and choices. *sigh*

I’ve never been a teacher but yes it is days and weeks and months of hard work but when even one piece falls into place it is such a joy and a triumph. I like your reference to “choices” that is very true even for horses!

Thank you. We don’t have the best weather forecast for the weekend but Biasini is resilient in rain and wind so we’ll go for it!

    Love the white jodhpurs!

They look nice but are a challenge to keep clean while grooming and tacking up the horse! I wear an apron while braiding and grooming.

Oh I hope you share a picture or video of that😊

I hope my husband will take video.
