TRADITIONAL
NON-TRADITIONAL
Both Traditional and Non-traditional are in London’s Trafalgar Square with Nelson’s column in the background.
The traditional statue is George IV and the other, the skeleton, is on the Fourth Plinth. This plinth was built for an equestrian statue in 1840 and should have had a statue of William IV but insufficient funds meant it never happened. It remained empty until 1999 when it as decided it would host a series of changing works of art. This horse skeleton was atop the Fourth Plinth from March 2015 until September 2016. I took the photo in May of 2016. It was created by Hans Haacke and the ribbon tied to the skeleton’s leg has a live ticker tape of the London Stock Exchange. It is called The Gift Horse.
