“HERE’S LOOKING AT YOU KID.”
“Here’s looking at you, kid.” According to IMBD trivia about the 1942 film, Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart improvised the line in the Parisian scenes and used it again later in the film. However, this line, “Here’s looking at you, kid,” predated Casablanca. In 1932 when Eddie Cantor signed his name in the cement of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, he wrote “Here’s looking at you, Sid” in reference to the owner of the theatre Sid Grauman. It seems Cantor intended it to be a twist on the “Here’s looking at you , kid” which was an popular phrase at the time.
Irrespective of all that, it is Humphrey Bogart’s rendition of it in Casablanca that immortalized the phrase and it has continued to shine on ever since.
