Well Hello Humans! Biasini here. I hear that when humans leave the cold weather and go south to Florida they are called “Snowbirds”. Hmmm…I have decided that I am , therefore, a Snow Horse. Well, whatever, I’m happy to be here in Florida. I have a very nice room. I can look out the back and see the paddocks and some trees and another farm in the distance and I can look out into the aisle and see all the comings and goings.
My room is nice and big and has a large automatic waterer which is important as it is warm here and I like to drink lots in warm weather. And…here’s the best part….they feed loads of hay here. Yes! The have it on the second floor above the aisle and they just throw down a couple of the biggest flakes I have ever seen onto the floor of my room several, yes several times a day! What could be better?
Don’t give me that look! I know you’re thinking I’ll be getting a hay belly with all that hay. No chance. I am working here. Full training! Oh yeah! And I’ll be going to shows as well and all of that will be keeping me trim. So…let me eat my hay.
I’m at a different barn this year. It is pretty nice. The humans who deliver food are nice and they do a good job cleaning up my room too. I am ridden in a big arena that is open at the sides but has a roof. Very Florida. However, there is something in that arena that is just plain wrong. It is a big wooden thing on a box and the humans call it a “chair”. What? No chair needs to be that big or that high up. So I have found it very difficult to go past that so called “chair”. This past weekend my human, Ma Leueen, took me into the arena to do some of the Tellington work to help me get over my suspicions of that “chair” thing.
We started with the usual Tellington work with a tarpaulin on the ground, then with it draped over a small table and we would walk back and forth over it and stand on it and back up. The usual Tellington stuff. Then she crumpled up the tarp and put that near the “chair” Can you see it there on the right in the photo?
That was all well and good but I knew that dratted “chair” was still there . However it did not seem so threatening now. Then we took the tarp down to the end of the arena where the big mirror is. I walked back and forth over it no problem. But suddenly I saw something out of the corner of my eye. Another horse! Right there! I had to quickly turn to look at it of course. Oh……it was just my reflection in the mirror.
Well I did feel like a bit of an idiot. Ma Leueen gave me a pat and said nothing about it. She knew I was embarrassed. She stood beside me and took a photo of the two of us looking into the mirror.
.
Here in Florida Ma Leueen and I train with Lou Denizard. He’s a pretty nice guy. His name is actually Luis but people call him Lou. Typical humans. You have a nice interesting name like Luis and they insist on making it into an ordinary name like Lou. Well I always call him Luis. It’s pronounced Loo-eees. Loo-ees. He has us working pretty hard. Human coaches like to make us work hard. And Luis is just about as picky as our other coach Miss Belinda about every little thing. They want my hind end here and my front end there and my legs going this way and not that way. Ma Leueen does what they say of course and sometimes she tells me stuff even before they have said anything. Jeez!
Ma Leueen tells me there is some “daily word” thing and today’s word is “Crossing” . Well I can use that word no problem. When I do a half pass in trot, as I was doing in our lesson today I have to bend my body and step sideways and my legs are “crossing” when I do this. Here is a photo taken at a show last summer.
Well that’s all for now. Ma Leueen tells me it is a New year. Really? I don’t go with this “year” delineation I just go by seasons. She also told me that humans get all busy with making resolutions for the New Year. Resolutions? Well I’m not going to worry about that . I’m a living-in-the-present-moment kind of guy. I know we will be going to some shows but I will think about that when the time comes. Until then Dear Humans!
